The story behind the FP3 Project
Pempek’s perceived strength lies in the design, manufacture, commissioning and support
of electronic control system technology. In recent years, after a glass of wine,
some navel-gazing and moments of general introspection it was realised, even tacitly
acknowledged, that the market for our bits-and-pieces in mining applications is
limiting and limited.
In order not to end up at a loose end and looking for something to do, we at Pempek
explored and investigated other industries where our expertise could be put to good
use. We positively rue the day when a noted mechanical engineer came forward with
a conceptual design for a novel internal combustion engine-linear-generator-combo.
The successful implementation of his concept hinges, apart from a few other hinges,
on a means of somewhat advanced electronic control. While such a project is a clear
departure from our established industry, we took a deep breath and proceded. We
are hopeful the project will further enhance our expertise in electronic control
system development and perhaps even provide an avenue of growth for the company.
Seek simplicity and distrust it. (Alfred North Whitehead)
